International Feature Film Competition

Contemporary documentary filmmaking through a selection of original and singular feature films. Only world, international or European premieres are eligible.

The International Feature Film Competition Jury will award:

  • Sesterce d’or La Mobilière to the best feature film (CHF 20,000)
  • Jury Prize Région de Nyon to the most innovative feature film (CHF 10,000)

Burning Lights International Competition

An international competition dedicated to new vocabularies and expressions, to research and to narrative and formal experimentation (medium length and feature films). Only world, international or European premieres are eligible.

The Burning Lights International Competition Jury will award:  

  • Sesterce d’or Canton de Vaud to the best medium length or feature film (CHF 10,000)
  • Jury Prize Société des Hôteliers de la Côte to the most innovative medium length or feature film (CHF 5,000)

National Competition

A competition dedicated to feature and medium length films (co)produced by Switzerland. Only world, international or European premieres are eligible.

The National Competition Jury will award:  

  • Sesterce d’or SRG SSR to the best medium length or feature film (CHF 15,000)
  • Jury Prize SSA/Suissimage to the most innovative feature film (CHF 10,000)

International Medium Length & Short Film Competition

Contemporary documentary filmmaking through a selection of original and singular medium length and short films. Only world, international or European premieres are eligible.

The International Medium length and Short Film Competition Jury will award

  • Sesterce d’argent to the best medium length film (CHF 10,000)
  • Sesterce d’argent Fondation Goblet to the best short film (CHF 5,000)
  • Jury Prize Clinique de Genolier to the most innovative medium length film (CHF 5'000)

The Youth Jury, composed of students from the region, awards:

  • Youth Jury Prize Mémoire Vive to the most innovative short film (CHF 2,500)

Grand Angle – Audience Award

Feature films that have already wowed audiences at other festivals or that shall mark the coming year. Presented at least as Swiss premieres.

The audience awards:

  • Sesterce d’argent Prix du Public Ville de Nyon for the best feature film (CHF 10,000)

Prix Raiffeisen Maître du Réel

The Prix Raiffeisen Maître du Réel is a lifetime achievement award given to a world renowned filmmaker. A selection of their films as well as a Masterclass are presented during the Festival.


Interreligious Award

The Interreligious Jury awards a feature film from the International Competition that sheds light on issues dealing with meaning and sense of direction in life (CHF 5,000).


Opening Scenes

A section dedicated to first short films or student films, presented as world, international or European premieres. 

  • IDFA Talent Award – One of the film directors of the Opening Scenes section will be invited to IDFA's next edition to participate in a tailor-made programme within the IDFA Industry and training activities (travel & accommodation included)
  • Tënk Award – Purchase of distribution rights for one film of the Opening Scenes section and an editing residency at the Village documentaire of Lussas (Ardèche–France) for the filmmaker of the awarded film
  • Meta Cultural Foundation Award – Slon Residency (Romania)
