Reunited

Fleeing war-torn Syria, two doctors and their children have to face extremely painful consequences and choices. The intricacies and the hypocrisies of bureaucracy split the family apart. The kids, still underage, are stuck in Turkey. The father is shipped off to Canada while the mother struggles in Denmark trying to get her children to join her. The only moments when the family can be together again are brief Skype calls. The film follows closely the three different situations—the father, the mother and the children—while the parents try to overcome the hardships they are confronted with. The mother tries relentlessly to get her children a visa so that they can join her in Denmark but both the Danish and Turkish authorities seem absolutely not concerned about her pain and despair. Reunited chronicles the odyssey of an almost superhuman effort to regain the right to a decent life and happiness. Mira Jargil explores with careful attention and compassion the family's abyss of pain while fleshing out the political subtext of the larger refugee situation in Europe. A moving and necessary film.
