Rough Cut Lab – Selected Projects 2016

4 feature documentary projects in a rough cut stage have been selected for the Rough Cut Lab 2016

Russian Tour

by Mikhail Bushkov
Russia – The Marina Razbezhkinan Ugarov School of Documentary Film and Theatre | 80'
Expected release: September 2016

A group of (mostly) European (mostly) avant-garde jazz musicians embarks on a musical tour across Russia. The plan is to travel 20,000 km, from Moscow to Vladivostok, on a bus. The project is organized and solely handled by Yury, Russian discipline-loving jazz impresario. The film follows the bus and its passengers as they get deeper and deeper into “Russian reality”, bringing their music to people who had never expected to hear it.

Didube, The Last Stop

by Shorena Tevzadze
Georgia, Switzerland – Real E.T. Films, marelefilm | 52’– 62’

A musical fairy tale about a bus and train station, where Niko, a veterinarian man is trying to save his peaceful kingdom from its demise and stay there as long as he can.

The Castle

by René Ballesteros
Chile – La Ballesta Films | 90’
Expected release: January 2017

A teenagers prison in the Mapuche countryside, south of Chile. Every night the teenagers are attacked by recurrent and collective nightmares: the same dark images and characters appear in their dreams. And some people say the prison is built upon an ancestral Mapuche cemetery.

Spectres

by Djamel Kerkar
Algeria – Prolégomènes | 70’
Expected release: July 2016

Ouled Allal is a village South East of Algiers, an area ravaged by war during the 90s. A constellation of beings, voices, bodies, and buildings faced a slow war without fronts and is  now left with its scars. Among the ruins, a memory travels. Images and sounds draw a poetic map and a psycho-geographical exploration of the place.
